Therapeutic Approaches

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach traditionally used in the treatment of trauma, PTSD and Complex PTSD. As our understanding of trauma expands, so too does the recognition that EMDR can support healing from a broader range of distressing or negative life experiences.
Our past experiences shape how we see ourselves, relate to others, and how our mind and body respond to the world around us. When experiences are too overwhelming for the nervous system at the time, the brain and body’s natural processing can become disrupted, leaving aspects of the memory — including emotions, sensations, beliefs or images — feeling stuck or frozen in time.
EMDR supports the brain and body’s natural processing through bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping or sound, helping unresolved experiences become integrated and no longer hold the same emotional intensity.
